David WOOD

Writer, Futurist & Founder Member of the Transhumanist Party (UK)

David Wood has been involved in transhumanist circles since 2004 and is a founder member of the Transhumanist Party (UK). He is a Fellow of the IEET (Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies), and Secretary of Humanity+, the organisation formerly known as the World Transhumanist Association.

In his professional career, David was a pioneer of the smartphone industry, co-founding in 1998 Symbian, the creator of the world's first successful smartphone operating system. Software written by teams led by David was included in half a billion smartphones over the following years, from companies including Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, LG, and Sony Ericsson.

David also spent three years as CTO of Accenture Mobility and ten years as software architect and software director at UK-based mobile computing innovator Psion PLC.

As principal of the independent consultancy and publisher Delta Wisdom, David is now a futurist speaker, analyst, and writer. He is the author or lead editor of six books, including "Anticipating 2025", "Smartphones and beyond", and "The abolition of aging". His forthcoming new book is "Transcending Politics". David also heads up London Futurists, and has chaired nearly 200 public events on technoprogressive and futurist topics.

He spent eight years at Cambridge University, studying first Mathematics and then the Philosophy of Science. He has an honorary doctorate in science from the University of Westminster, awarded in recognition of his services to the smartphone industry.
